Steps:
Phenylphosphane by reduction of PhP(O)(OEt)2 with LiAlH4
PhP(O)(OEt)2 (22.4 g, 105 mmol) was added slowly to LiAlH4 (6.5 g, 171 mmol) in diethyl ether (500 mL) at 5 to 20 °C (ice water bath). Stirring was continued overnight at room temperature to complete the reduction and the mixture hydrolyzed by dropwise addition of water at 5 to 10 °C. Workup by filtration, washing with ether and distillation provided 8.5 g (74%) phenylphosphane (b.p. 93 °C / 100 Torr) with 31P, 13C and proton NMR data in accordance to literature data [1].
