Example 67 Synthesis of allyl methyl carbonate 422 g (7.27 mol) of allyl alcohol, 2120 g (23.6 mol) of dimethyl carbonate and 1.0 g (7.3 mmol) of potassium carbonate as a catalyst were charged into a 5 lit. four-necked flask and reacted at 90°C for 10 hr under reflux under agitation with removing formed methanol. After the completion of the reaction, potassium carbonate was removed by the use of a short column of silica gel, and then distillation was performed, thereby obtaining allyl methyl carbonate.
