Steps:
24.1 Step 1: Synthesis of 3-(4-methoxyphenoxy)propanenitrile
4-Methoxyphenol (125 g, 1.0 mol) and acrylonitrile (198 mL, 3.0 mol) were taken in a reactor and K2CO3 (417 g, 3.0 mol) was added followed by t-butanol (90 mL) at 25° C. the mass was heated to 80-85° C. for 24 h.
The reaction mixture was then cooled to RT and filtered to remove the inorganics.
The clear filtrate was quenched with ice water (300 mL) and the aqueous layer was extracted with DCM (300 mL*2).
The combined organic layers were dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 and concentrated in vacuo to give 3-(4-methoxyphenoxy)propanenitrile (160 g, 90%).
