2.4 Cross coupling of CH₂Cl₂ with butylmagnesium chloride

General procedure: Cross-coupling reactions of Grignard reagents with CH₂Cl₂ were performed according to the following general method. Catalyst 2 (1.0 mg, 1.74 μmol) in 1.0 mL THF was added using a gas-tight syringe to a 5 mL round bottom flask purged with N₂. To this solution, 2 M n-butylmagnesium chloride in THF (0.42 mL, 0.84 mmol) was added. CH₂Cl₂ (27 μL, 0.42 mmol) in 2 mL THF was added to the reaction mixture. Samples were collected for analysis after 20 min. At the end of the reaction, excess Grignard reagent was destroyed using methanol and the reaction products were analyzed by GC-MS using an internal standard to quantify product formation.
