(-)-Menthyl lactate is a monosodium salt of L-menthol. It is used as a food additive. It is used in the preparation of fruit extract that is used as a mouthwash and toothpaste. The chemical structure of it consists of two molecules: one molecule of L-menthol and one molecule of lactic acid. This chemical compound has been shown to inhibit cavity formation in rats by increasing the pH level and inhibiting the activity of cavity inhibitor molecules like histamine.???
