Sodium octanoate(1984-06-1) has a wide range of uses. It is used as a lubricant or release agent in the food industry, and as a drug solvent in the pharmaceutical field.Rectal infusion of Sodium octanoate can increase the average bioavailability of cefoxitin and promote the absorption of cefoxitin in the rectum of the human body. In the chemical industry, it can be used as solubilising agent or raw material for organic synthesis. When the concentration of octanoate is low, the addition of neutral salt can increase the solubilising capacity of decanol[1-2].
| [Definition]
ChEBI: An organic sodium salt comprising equal numbers of sodium and octanoate ions. | [Clinical Use]
Sodium caprylate(1984-06-1) is prepared from caprylic acid, which is acomponent of coconut and palm oils. The salt precipitates ascream-colored granules that are soluble in water and sparinglysoluble in alcohol. Sodium caprylate is used topically to treat superficialdermatomycoses caused by C. albicans and Trichophyton,Microsporum, and Epidermophyton spp. The sodium saltcan be purchased in solution, powder, and ointment forms.
