In a 25 mL round-bottomed flask, tert-butyl 3-bromopropylcarbamate (1 g, 4.2 mmol) was combined with N,N-dimethylfonnamide (12 ml). Sodium azide (300 mg, 4.62 mmol) was added and the reaction was stirred at 80°C for 2 days. The reaction mixture was diluted with diethyl ether, washed with brine, dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to afford (3-azido-propyl)-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester (736 mg, 88%) as a yellow liquid. This liquid was used in the next step without further purification.
