Steps:

90.a a) Pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyridin-5-ylmethanol

To a suspension/s 1.2 g, 8 mmol) in methanol (18 mL) cooled to 0 °C was added portionwise sodium borohydride (0.46 g, 12.3 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at 0 °C for 4 hrs. Water (30 mL) was added and the methanol was removed under reduced pressure. The aqueous residue was extracted with ethyl acetate (3 x 30 mL). The organic layer was washed with water (20 mL), brine (20 mL), passed through phase separation paper and concentrated under reduced pressure to yield the title compound as a colourless oil (1.18 g, quant.). H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 8.41 (d, J = 7.2 Hz, 1 H), 7.93 (d, J = 2.3 Hz, 1 H), 7.50 (s, 1 H), 6.72 (dd, J = 1.8, 7.3 Hz, 1 H), 6.47 (d, J = 1.5 Hz, 1 H), 4.72 (d, J = 3.6 Hz, 2 H) (OH peak not observed).
