EXAMPLE 9 To a 10-mL, three-necked flask equipped with a condenser, a magnetic stir bar and a thermometer is charged cyclopropanecarboxylic acid (8.6 g), ethanol (23 mL) and 2 drops of concentrated sulfuric acid. The mixture is refluxed (approximately 85° C.) for 16 hours. GC analysis shows that 98% of the cyclopropanecarboxylic acid has been consumed and a 98% yield of ethyl cyclopropanecarboxylate is obtained.
