Methyl tetrahydrothiopyran-4-carboxylate (1.0 g, 6.2 nimol) was dissolved in CH2C12 (50 mL) and cooled in an ice bath. 3-Chlorobenzoperoxoic acid (3.4 g, 14 mmol) was added in portions and the reaction mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was diluted with CH2C12 and washed with saturated aqueous NaHCO3, and the combined organic extracts were dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to afford methyl tetrahydro-2H-thiopyran-4-carboxylate 1,1-dioxide (1 .1 g, 5.7 mmol, 92 % yield) as a white solid.
