Steps:

1.1 Step 1 4-Bromo-l-(dimethoxymethyl)-2-fluorobenzene

Step 1 4-Bromo-l-(dimethoxymethyl)-2-fluorobenzene A solution of 4-bromo-2-fiuoro-benzaldehyde (5 g, 24.6 mmol) in a solution of 2 M methanolic HC1 (100 mL) was stirred at ambient temperature for 2 hours. The solution was then concentrated and dried under reduced pressure to give 4-bromo-l- (dimethoxymethyl)-2-fiuoro-benzene (6.1 g, 99% yield). ¹H NMR (400 MHz, CDC1₃) δ 7.52 - 7.39 (m, 1H), 7.33 - 7.27 (m, 1H), 7.27 - 7.20 (m, 1H), 5.54 (s, 1H), 3.36 (s, 6H).
