A mixture of 1-benzylpyrrol (5.0 g, 31.8 mmol) and 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine (6.8 g, 36.9 mmol) is refluxed in xylene (35 mL) for 26 hours. The solvent is evaporated to dryness, the crude product is cooled and methanol (35 mL) is added at room temperature and the mixture left under stirring for 25 min. The solid obtained is filtered, washed with methanol and dried to obtain 2-(1-benzyl-1H-pyrrol-2-yl)-4,6-dichloro-1,3,5-triazine (8.35 g, 21.4 mmol, 86%, m.p.= 150-1510C).1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): δ 5.72 (s, 2H), 6.36 (dd, J= 4.1 Hz, J' = 2.5 Hz, 1H), 7.09 (d, J= 6.7 Hz, 2H), 7.15 (m, 1H), 7.23-7.33 (m, 3H), 7.59 (dd, J= 4,1 Hz, J'= 1.8 Hz, 1H) .
