Steps:
Conversion of oxamic adducts (1a-e) to hydrazines
General procedure: The adduct 1x was dissolved in methanol (x mL) to make 0.2 M solution, to this, was added 4 M hydrochloric acid in dioxane (x/2 mL). The dark solution was then stirred at reflux for 2 hours before removing from the heat. Once cool enough ~5-10 volumes of diethyl ether are added to create a profusion of fluffy solid which are filtered and washed to provide the hydrazine hydrochlorides.
