R.1 Synthesis of 1-propyl-2-pyrrolidone

Reference Example 1 Synthesis of 1-propyl-2-pyrrolidone A suspension of 2-pyrrolidone (40.0 g), propionaldehyde (109.0 g), anhydrous sodium sulfate (106.0 g), and 20% Pd-C (wet, 10.0 g) in ethyl acetate (470 ml) was stirred under an atmosphere of 4 MPa hydrogen at 100°C for 4 hours. After cooling to room temperature, insolubles were filtered and washed with ethyl acetate. The mother liquid was concentrated, and the concentrate was then distilled under reduced pressure (72°C to 77°C/5 mmHg) to give 1-propyl-2-pyrrolidone (56.2 g, 94% yield) as a colorless oil. ¹H-NMR (CDCl₃, δ, 300 MHz): 0.90 (3H, t, 7.4 Hz), 1.49-1.61 (2H, m), 1.97-2.05 (2H, m), 2.40 (2H, t, J = 8.3 Hz), 3.25 (2H, t, J = 7.6 Hz), 3.39 (2H, t, J = 7.1 Hz).
