5.1.2. General procedure A for the synthesis of compounds 12 and13a-i

General procedure: A mixture of the appropriate aniline (10 mmol) and 2,5-dimethoxytetrahydrofuran (1.32 g, 10 mmol) in a mixture of 1,2-dichloroethane (20 mL), acetic acid (0.7 mL) and water (10 mL)was heated under reflux for 24 h. After removal of the solvent, thecrude residue was dissolved in a mixture of water (15 mL) anddichloromethane (20 mL). The organic extract was washed with a10% sodium carbonate solution (10 mL) and brine (10 mL) and driedover Na2SO4 and the solvent removed in vacuo. The resulting residuewaspurified by silica gel column chromatography to afford thedesired product 12 or 13a-i.
