Step 1: To a solution of 1,1,1-trifluoropropan-2-one (1.0 g, 8.9 mmol, 1 equiv) in diethyl ether (20 mL) was added 2 M solution of lithium aluminium hydride in THF (8.92 mL, 17.8mmol, 2 equiv) at 0 °C. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. After consumption of the starting material (TLC, 10 % EtOAc in hexane), the reaction mixture was quenched with saturated ammonium chloride solution (5 mL), filtered through celite bed, rinsing the celite bed with diethyl ether (2 x 50 mL), and the filtrate was concentrated to obtain 1,1 ,1-trifluoropropan-2-ol as gum which was forwarded to the nextstep without further purification (1.0 g, 99%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCI3): O ppm 1.17 (t, J = 6.4 Hz, 3 H), 4.01 -4.06 (m, 1 H), 5.97 (d, J = 6.0 Hz, 1 H).
