A. absinthium L. is a perennial herb widespread throughout central Europe and western Asia, as well as North America.

Composition
Qualitatively, the herb consists of sesquiterpene lactones (absinthin, isoabsinthin, anabsin, anabsinthin, arabsin, arlatin, sesartemin, diasesartemin, episesarteminabsintholide, artabsinolide and others) and flavonoids (aglycones, kaempferol-3-methyl,
querecetagetin-3,6,3? trimethyl and others).
