Crystallise lycoxanthin from diethyl ether/light petroleum, *C6H6/pet ether or CS2. Purify it also by chromatography on columns of CaCO3, Ca(OH)2 or deactivated alumina, and washing with *benzene and eluting with 3:1 *C6H6/MeOH. Store it in the dark, in an inert atmosphere, at -20o.
