Definition
A genus of imperfect fungi, at least 20 species are known to cause opportunistic infections in humans. Aspergillus species are ubiquitous in the environment and are the second most commonly recovered fungus from opportunistic mycoses following those of Candida (commonly known as yeast) species. Many Aspergillus produce mycotoxins, which are potent toxins.
