Beschreibung
An indole alkaloid found in Desrnodiurn pulchellurn Benth. ex. Baker and Phalaris arundinacea L. (reed canary grass). The ultraviolet spectrum has three
absorption maxima at 223, 276 and 292 mfJ.. The alkaloid forms crystalline salts
and derivatives, e.g. the hydrochloride, colourless prisms from MeOH-Me2CO,
m.p. 166-7°C; picrate, orange prisms, m.p. 220-10C (dec.) and the p-toluenesulphonyl
derivative, m.p. 118-9°C.
