5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-beta-D-glucuronide cyclohexylammonium salt is a widely used substrate for β-glucuronidase, which upon enzymatic hydrolysis produces an insoluble, intense indigo blue chromophore (615 nm). It can be used in bacterial detection systems (e.g. E. coli).
