Beschreibung
Miramistin is a topical antiseptic with broad antimicrobial action, including activity against biofilms, and a clinical profile showing good tolerability.
History
An obscure antiseptic called miramistin, developed by the Soviet space program in the 1950s, may prove to have modern applications in the fight against harmful viruses and bacteria. It is available for clinical use in several prior Soviet bloc countries, but barely known outside of these countries and there is almost no mention of miramistin in the English literature.
Verwenden
Miramistin is antibacterial surfactant used in stabilization of silver nanoparticles, and various drug delivery. The use of drugs that have powerful antimicrobial action and at the same time are free from side effects, that are caused by antibiotics, plays an important role in solving the problem of wound healing. In addition to antibiotics antiseptics or bacteriolytic enzymes can be used, i.e. drugs that have bactericidal or bacteriostatic effects by lysing the cell wall of microorganisms.
