Suitable as a tracking dye for DNA sequencing. | [Uses]
Xylene Cyanol FF is a tracking dye commonly used for nucleic acids. The compound has been used in both electrophoresis polyacrylamide and agarose gels for various evaluations including DNA sequencing. The compound has also been used in a mobility shift analysis of ssDNA. In addition, two highly sensitive spectrophotometric assays have been developed for the detection of platinum (IV) (sc-250738, Platinum(IV) chloride) and Chromium (sc-214714) with the use of Xylene Cyanol FF. As an organic dye-inactivated Sendai virus vaccine, Xylene Cyanol FF displayed strong protection against the virus. | [Preparation]
4-Formylbenzene-1,3-disulfonic acid (1 Moore) and N-ethyl-2-methylbenzenamine (2 Moore) condensation, garnish with heavy chromate salt-oxalic acid oxidation its product. | [General Description]
Xylene cyanol is often used as a tracking dye during agarose or polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. It has a slightly negative charge and will migrate in the same direction as DNA, allowing the user to monitor the progress of molecules moving through the gel. The tracking dye typically migrates with the DNA molecules around 5kb. Xylene cyanol may also be used in loading buffer that facilitates the observation of the sample during gel loading and electrophoresis. | [Biochem/physiol Actions]
Xylene Cyanol FF acts as nucleic acid stain. | [Properties and Applications]
bright blue. Soluble in water to blue.
