V-PYRRO/NO is a metabolically activated nitric oxide (NO) donor drug that can be used to selectively target NO delivery to the liver. The compound is metabolized by the liver, and spontaneously decom
poses with a half-life of 3 seconds, liberating NO. Infusion of 30nmol/kg of V-PYRRO/NO in rats causes only a slight drop in blood pressure. At concentrations >100ug, V-PYRRO/NO increases hepatocyte
viability against TNF-a-induced apoptosis by approximately 2-fold compared to cells not treated with this compound. |
