Hazard Information | Back Directory | [Description]
Borane-pyridine complex is a mild reducing agent with greater hydrolytic stability than NaBH4 in protic solvents and higher
solubility in aprotic organic solvents; in solution with a weak organic acid or complexed with
Lewis acids it is useful for reductive aminations, reduction of carbonyls, heterocycles,
tosylhydrazones, and oximes; in strong acid it converts aldehydes to symmetrical ethers; weak
hydroborating agent. | [Chemical Properties]
clear to slightly hazy colorless to amber liquid | [Uses]
Borane-pyridine complex is used for synthesis of α-alkyl-β-hydroxy esters and preparation of Igs conjugated with viral peptide epitopes. It is used as reducing agent for high performance liquid chromatography analysis of oligosaccharides. It is also used as modifier in decant oil affecting its carbonization to mesophase pitch. | [reaction suitability]
reagent type: reductant | [storage]
hydrolytically stable in neutral aqueous solution. Excess
reagent may be decomposed with dilute HCl. Use in a fume hood. |
