Methyl (3 S )-3 -(benzyloxycarbonylamino)-7 -(tert-butoxycarbonylamino)heptanoate (1.4341g, 3.511 mmol) was dissolved in 1,4-dioxane (20 mL), and lithium hydroxide (10 mmol) was added at 0°C. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was cooled to 0°C and acidified with 1.0 M HC1. The resultant white precipitate was extracted with iPrOAc, dried with MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated to afford (3S)-3-(benzyloxycarbonylamino)-7-(tert-butoxycarbonylamino)heptanoic acid (1.405 g, 100%), which was used without further purification.
