Example 7; 10 g of N-desmethylolanzapine (0.034 mol) is dissolved in 240 mi tetrahydrofuran and while stirring cooled to 0 °C. 4.48 g of potassium t-butoxid and 5 ml (0.080 mol) of methyl iodide are added. The reaction mixture is stirred for 2 hours at 0 °C, the end of the reaction is determined by HPLC. After completing the reaction 200 ml of demineralised water is added and tetrahydrofuran is evaporated, the title compound is crystallised as yellow crystals. The precipitate is filtered off and washed with water to give 10.4 g of crude olanzapine (yield : 99 %).
