Step 3: Iodomethane (866 mg, 381 )lL, 6.1 mmol, Eq: 2) was added to a mixture of 5-fluoronaphthalen-2-ol (494.5 mg, 3.05 mmol, Eq: 1.00) and K2C03 (1.26 g, 9.15 mmol, Eq: 3) inacetone (20 mL) and the mixture heated to 40 °C. After 15 h., the mixture was cooled, diluted with25 EtOAc, washed with H20, dried over Na2S04 and concentrated. The residue was purified by flashchromatography to give 1-fluoro-6-methoxynaphthalene (0.4245 g, 79 %, nearly colorless oil).
