4-NITROBENZENESULFONYL chloride (2.22 g, 10 mmol) was added to a solution of dimethylamine (10 mL, 2.0 M in THF, 20 mmol) at 0°C. The reaction was stirred at 0°C for 1 h and then at room temperature for additional 1 h. The THF was removed under vacuum, more water was added, and the precipitate was collected by filtration and dried to afford 450 (2.20 g, 96% yield). Data for 450 : 1HNMR (300 MHz, CDC13-CD30D) : 8 8.33 (d, J= 9 Hz, 2H), 7.90 (d, J= 9 Hz, 2H), 2.70 (s, 6H).
