Steps:
3 Methyl 4-amino-3-chloro-5-methylbenzoate
Methyl 4-amino-3-methyl benzoate (5.0 g, 30.3 mmol) and dry dichloromethane (50 mL) were added in a threeneckedflask and stirred. N-chlorosuccinimide (4.85 g, 36.3 mmol) was added and the mixture was allowed to reactovernight at room temperature. The reaction mixture was poured into water (100 mL), extracted three times with dichloromethane.The organic phase was combined, dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered, concentrated to dry, andpurified by column to obtain the target compound (5.1 g, 82%) as a white solid.1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 7.85 (s, 1H), 7.67 (s, 1H), 4.33 (brs, 2H), 3.86 (s, 3H), 2.22 (s, 3H).
