Steps:
1.C Step C: Preparation of methyl 4-nitrophenyl-2,4-dioxobutyrate
0.31 g (1.85 mmol) of p-nitroacetophenone and 0.33 g (2.77 mmol) dimethyl oxalate were dissolved in 20 mL of dried tetrahydrofuran and 0.15 g (3.7 mmol) of sodium methanol was added at 0 °C. Subsequently, the reaction solution was pipetted to room temperature and stirred for 2.5 h. The reaction solution was concentrated under reduced pressure to give a yellow solid of 0.62g, yield: 89.6%.
