Steps:
The ethyl linolenate (3.06g, 10mmol) dissolved in methanol (50mL) was mixed with 5mol/L sodium hydroxide (4mL, 20mmol) and stirred for 24h at room temperature. The solvent was evaporated under vacuum. The residue was dissolved in methylene dichloride, washed with water to neutral, dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate and evaporated in vacuum to obtain LNA.
