To the reaction flask, 335 g (2 mol) of betaine methyl ester hydrochloride was added, and 350 g of water and 5 g (1.5%) of self-developed Ti-SiO2-Al2O3 molecular sieve catalyst were added, and the mixture washeated to 100 °C for 5 h. Then, the mixture was filtered under suction and dried to give 302.9 g (yield: 1.97 mol) of the product of betaine hydrochloride. The product yield was 98.6%, and the residue of the product was 0.09%.
