General procedure: To a solution of 12 (1mmol) in 3mL of ethanol/water (2/1), 2mL of 1N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (2mmol) were added and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4h. The organic solvents were removed under reduced pressure and the resulting aqueous solution was adjusted in an ice bath to pH 6 using 1N aqueous hydrochloric acid. The resulting solid was filtered, washed with water to obtain 13.
