Steps:
Aminothiazoles 3a-g; general procedure
General procedure: A mixture of N-arylthiourea 1a-g (0.01 mol), acetylacetone 2 (1 g, 0.01mol), N-bromosuccinimide (1.79 g, 0.01 mol) and benzoyl peroxide (0.12 g) in anhydrous benzene (40 mL) was heated to reflux for 6 h (completion indicated by TLC). The solvent was evaporated and the residue was dissolved in water and basified with 5% aqueous K2CO3 to pH 9. The resulting precipitate was filtered off and washed thoroughly with ethanol and water. Recrystallisation of the crude product from ethyl acetate afforded the title compound 3a.
