Example 19 5-trans Bimatoprost 1b A solution of ester 2b (1.21 g, 3.0 mmol) in the mixture of MeOH (8 mL) and 70% aq EtNH2 (8 mL, 101 mmol) was stirred in the well-closed flask for 72 h at rt. The volatiles were removed under reduced pressure and the oil residue was dissolved in CH2Cl2 and purified on a silica gel (30 g, eluent EtOAc then EtOAc/MeOH 10:1) to give 1.03 g (83%) of 5-trans bimatoprost 1b as light yellow viscous oil.
