To a mixture of 5-methoxypicolinaldehyde (326mgs, 2.36mmol) in MeOH (10 mL) was added NaBH₄ (71.9 mg, 1.90 mmol) at O⁰C. The mixture was stirred at O⁰C for 10 min after concentration in vacuo, the residue was purified with ISCO MPLC (40-80% EtOAc/hexane) to yield the title compound as a colorless oil (298 mg, 90 %). ¹H NMR (CDCl₃) 68.28 (d, 1 H), 7.09 - 7.27 (m, 2 H), 4.73 (s, 2 H), 3.89 (s, 3 H). MS (M+H⁺) = 140.
