5-Iodo-2-methyl-benzoic acid (50.0 g, 191 mmol) was dissolved in dichloromethane (500 mL) at room temperature, and the mixture was cooled to -10 under nitrogen. Then oxalyl chloride (25 mL, 0.29 mol) and N, N-dimethylformamide (1.5 mL, 19 mmol) was added dropwise. The mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight, and concentrated to give the title compound as a yellow solid (53 g, 100%)
