Steps:

4-Hexyloxyphenylamine (3a).

General procedure: A mixture of 2a (40 mmol), hydrazine monohydrate (10 mL,200 mmol), and graphite (24 g, 2 mol) in absolute ethanol (100 mL) was refluxed under N₂ atmosphere for 48 h. The graphite was removed by hot filtration. The filtrate was extracted with dichloromethane. The organic layer was washed with H₂O, dried over anhydrous Na₂SO₄, and evaporated to dryness. The product was dried under vacuum (yield: 91 %).
