Steps:
1 Synthesis of 3-chloro-4-methoxypyridine
Into a 1000-mL round-bottom flask, was placed 3-chloro-4-nitropyridine (30.00 g, 189.2 mmol, 1.0 equiv), MeOH (400.0 mL), CILONa (56.7 mL, 5 mol/L, 1.50 equiv). The resulting solution was stirred for 2 hr at room temperature. The resulting mixture was concentrated under vacuum. The residue was dissolved in 500 mL of EA. The resulting mixture was washed with 3 x500 ml of brine. The mixture was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated under vacuum. This resulted in 25 g (92.0%) of 3-chloro-4-methoxypyridine as yellow oil.
