Reaction Conditions:
Stage #1:4-hydroxy[1]benzopyran-2-one;hexamethylenetetramine with trifluoroacetic acid for 0.05 h;Microwave irradiation;
Stage #2: with sulfuric acid for 0.5 h;Reflux;
Steps:
Synthesis of 4-hydroxy-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3- carbaldehyde (1).
4-Hydroxycoumarin (1 mmol) and hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) (3 mmol) was dissolved in 10 ml of trifl uoroacetic acid and subjected to microwave irradiation at 800 W for 3 min with gentle stirring. The reaction progress was monitored by TLC. After completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was treated with 50% v/v hot solution of sulfuric acid solution and then refl uxed for 30 min. The product was extracted with ethyl acetate, and the extract was evaporated to leave compound 1, yield 65%, mp 139.2°C (135-140°C [38]).
