A. A solution of pteridin-4-ol (1 mmol) in 10 mL of POCl3 is stirred at 0° C. for 10 min then at 100° C. for 6 h. The solution is concentrated. The residue is partitioned between ethyl acetate and water. Ethyl acetate layer is separated, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to give 4-chloro-pteridine.
