1.0 ml of concentrated sulphuric acid is added to a solution of 1.0 g of 4-bromophthalic acid in 20 ml of ethanol. The reaction medium is irradiated at 79° C. with microwave radiation (power 50 W) for 30 minutes. The reaction medium is concentrated under reduced pressure and extracted with ethyl acetate. The solution is washed with water and dried over sodium sulphate, then filtered to produce, after concentrating under reduced pressure, 1.08 g of the expected product. Yield: 88%
