EXAMPLE 12 3-[(2-Methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-5-ylthio)methyl]-7-amino-8-oxo-5-thia-1-azabicyclo[4,2,0]oct-2-ene-2-carboxylic acid In about 1 liter of water is dissolved 0.1 mole of the sodium salt of 3-[(acetyloxy)methyl]-7-amino-8-oxo-5-thia-1-azabicyclo[4.2.0]oct-2-ene-2-carboxylic acid at 70°C under nitrogen atmosphere. To the solution is added 1 equivalent of sodium bicarbonate and 2 equivalents of 2-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-5-ylthiol. The mixture is stirred at 70°C for 3 hours after which the pH is adjusted to 3.5, and the resulting precipitate collected giving 3-[(2-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-5-ylthio)methyl]-7-amino-8-oxo-5-thia-1-azabicyclo[4.2.0]oct-2-ene-2-carboxylic acid.
