Steps:

3-bromopyrazolo[1,5-a]pyridine-5-carboxylic acid

A solution of ester (195 mg, 0.764 mmol, 1 .0 equiv.) in 4 mL MeOH was treated with 1aq. NaOH (2 mL, 2.0 mmol, 2.6 equiv.) at rt, and then allowed to stir at rt for one hour. Concentrated under reduced pressure, then diluted with water and acidified with 4 N aq. HCI. Extracted 3 x 10 mL EtOAc, dried the combined organic extracts with Na2SO4, filtered and the solvent removed under reduced pressure to give the desired acid 1-7, which was taken on without further purification.
