3-Bromo-5-chloro-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde (2 g, 8.5 mmol, 1 eq) was dissolved in DMF (10 mL) and treated with potassium carbonate (1.76 g, 12.7 mmol, 1.5 eq) and iodomethane (1.06 mL, 17 mmol, 2 eq) y The mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 14 h. The mixture was poured into water (100 mL) and extracted with ether (2×75 mL). The ether layers were washed successively with 15% aqueous NaOH, water, and then brine (50 mL each). Drying over magnesium sulfate and concentration in vacuo gave the ether 322 as a white solid (2.07 g, 98% yield).
