General procedure: The 1,2-arylenediamine 1 (1.0 mmol) was added to a stirred mixture of the 1,2-dicarbonyl compound 2 (1.0 mmol) in H2O (0.5 mL) and a 2.5 mM solution NH4HF2 (5.0 μmol) in MeOH (2 mL) at r.t. After 15 min, the mixture was cooled in an ice bath and the resulting solid was collected by filtration, washed with H2O, and dried.
