2-Bromo-6-fluoro-4-nitrophenol. To a solution of 2-fluoro-4-nitrophenol (8.00 g, 50.9 mmol, 1 eq) in acetic acid (25 mL) was added bromine (8.95 g, 56.0 mmol, 1.1 eq). The reaction was stirred at 15 °C for 3 h. The reaction solution was poured into water (100 mL) to form a yellow suspension. The suspension was filtered, and the filter cake was washed with water (50 mL). The collected filter cake was dried under reduced pressure to give crude 2-bromo-6-fluoro-4-nitrophenol (9.80 g, 41.5 mmol, 81.5% yield) as an off-white solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-i) d 8.26 (dd, J= 2.8, 1.2 Hz, 1H), 8.17 (dd, J= 10.4, 2.4 Hz, 1H).
