Steps:

2-Amino-3-chloro-1,4-naphthoquinone (84)
To 2,3-dichloro-1,4-naphthoquinone (0.227g, 1.00mmol)in 1.0ml of ethanol was added concentrated ammonia (7N in MeOH, 4.00mmol) andthe mixture stirred at 35°C for 3h. The red precipitate formed was filteredunder suction, washed with distilled water and dried to afford (84) as a orange solid, 94.0%.¹H (CDCl₃) δ 8.16(dd, 1H, J=1.00, 7.64Hz),8.07 (dd, 1H, J=1.04, 7.61Hz),7.74 (dt, 1H, J=1.38, 7.59Hz),7.66 (dt, 1H, J=1.34, 7.54Hz),5.55 (br s, 1H); ¹³C (CDCl₃) δ 179.13, 176.40, 145.09,134.90, 132.73, 132.58, 129.85, 126.96, 126.64, 112.64.
