Preparation of the Chalcones

General procedure: An Illustrative Procedure with (E)-1-Aryl-3-(2-pyrrolyl)-2-propenones (3k). 2-Pyrrolecarbaldehyde (12 mmol), acetophenone (13 mmol), and 24 mmol of NaOH in ethanol (20 mL) and water (10 mL) were mixed in an ice-bath and stirred for 4 h in the bath. The mixture was neutralized with 1 M-HCl aqueous solution to pH 8-9. The resulting precipitate was collected and recrystallized from ethanol.
